Protein is the powerhouse behind your gains. When you lift heavy, protein repairs the tiny tears that strength training creates in your tissues, which helps your muscles grow bigger, faster. You already know that meat is your friend here: chicken, beef, and fish are all packed with the filling macronutrient.
But what if you prefer tofu over turkey? Or beans over beef?
No sweat, you can absolutely build and maintain a built physique on a vegetarian diet. In fact, a recent Arizona State University study found no difference in measures of strength or endurance — or levels of lean body mass — in vegetarian athletes compared to meat eaters.
The caveat? Because animal-based proteins tend to be higher in the essential amino […]
Do you have a jar of turmeric, some chia seeds or flax meal languishing on a shelf? Yeah, me too. Good intentions get waylaid when we try to put those super power health foods to work in a practical manner.
But it’s January, and that means it’s time to try again. So get them out and get ready to blend.
Blending is the easiest, most painless way to get these things into our diets. And you don’t need a fancy $500 blender to do it. In fact, high speed juicers that separate the juice from the pulp remove most of the fiber. That’s bad because fiber is half the reason to blend anyway.

The New Year is here and following the excesses of Christmas many people are on a healthy eating drive.
And thousands of them will be taking on the Veganuary challenge for January – eating a vegan diet for a month.

Fast forward to recent years with busy lives when Christmas day might be your only rest day, diet related health conditions and less money in the pocket.
All I see is plain coleslaw which by the way can be spiced up with apple or […]
Dairy-free eggnog by Healthful Pursuits. If you’re among the 15 to 30 percent of people who are lactose intolerant, or you have guests coming over for the holidays who are, it’s important to be mindful of the ingredients you’re putting into the food you serve. Dairy ingredients can be lurking in a number of holiday recipes, from creamed side dishes to cakes and pies.
People who are lactose intolerant don’t produce enough lactase, the enzyme that helps you digest lactose, a sugar found in milk and milk products. Consequently, within 30 minutes to an hour or so after consuming food with dairy, such as eggnog, pie with ice cream, creamy ranch dressing, or creamy main dishes and sides, those who […]
